Ghana awaits Obama

I thought this was my moment to finally meet POTUS. I was lucky to meet him or should I say see him twice in Kansas City MI during the campaign, but when I heard he was going to be in Ghana right about the time that I would be doing my internship, I was more than excited.
But, I will not be meeting POTUS for several reasons:

First, for the past couple of days I have been battling malaria. For any malaria sufferer, you know how it goes. Body aches, fatigues and what not. I finally went to the hospital today and was told that I don't have the parasite in my blood system, but traces of it shows in my urine. I guess that is good news. So why do I feel like I was ran down by a bus or something.

Second, I doubt I will get to meet him personally as I was hoping my boss, former AG Hon. Joe Ghartey would tag me along. But it seems like once you are in the political minority, you are irrelevant...or not??? so there goes my hope number 2

Third, the traffic and protocols is just too much to muddle with in this raining season. I am praying that it won't rain because here in Ghana and Africa, it can rain anytime.

But Ghana is ready for the first BLACK PRESIDENT, which I keep trying to correct folks to add, black president in United States. Why? African presidents are black as well, so it will be incorrect to call POTUS the first BLACK PRESIDENT in Africa....lol...

Everything/one in Ghana is about Barrack Obama. From the posters to the news and local talks. I don't envy them at all, Ghana deserves this big honor. They showed once again this past election of what democracy is all about. It is an honor for the POTUS to pick Ghana over Nigeria as his first leg visit to sub-saharan Africa. Another misconception I had to correct. I had to let folks know that Egypt is Africa, even though some people want to think otherwise.

Like one commentator said on TV today, we are hoping that it will not be all about promises and donations. What Africa and Ghana needs is less aids and more support with free trade, infrastratures and investments.

Many are also speculating as to why Ghana...well...it could be because of the freshly discovered oil, or it could as POTUS said, Ghana's role in leading democracy. Either one, POTUS, Akwaaba/welcome to Ghana. The "gateway to Africa." I hope you get to enjoy their hospitality, because I think Ghanians are the most friendly people compared to the places I have visited in Africa (South Africa, Nigeria). Try and learn some dance moves, they are easier than most African rythyms. Also don't forget to try their delicious dishes and visit the lovely attractions.
