There is this African proverb (not sure if it is a proverb or just street slang) about "everyday is for the thief but one day is for the owner." And I think there is a similar saying in the bible. Charles Taylor is on the hot seat today in his defense for the crimes he committed or linked to Sierra Leone. Funny how he is calling the charges lies and how we wish that the deaths of those victims were lies too...sad
What is it with African leaders abusing their powers in the office. It is either that they don't want to relinquish power or they take it by force. Obama was frank to call them out in his last to Ghana. He challenged them to do right by their people. It is the people that elect them to govern and they should not view their role as birth rights but as call to service for THE PEOPLE.
On the other news (Ghana Daily News Paper), Uganda is threatening to arrest Omar Al Bashir and turn him over to ICC if he shows up for the upcoming conference. Word has it that it was the same reason why he did not go for President Zuma's swear in ceremony because he was warned that he may be arrested. I guess we shall see if he makes it and whether they will arrest him. If he does not show up, that means he is aware that he can be arrested in the of the 30+ African countries that are parties to ICC.
